The data gathered in this file represent those areas of the Willamette Valley, Oregon that were mapped in the earliest phase of the porject dating back to 2000. During this early pahse, oak and pine polygons were identified in the field using vehicular survey techniques in conjunctions with hardcopy LANdSAT composite images. Each polygon contains informational classes about sepcies composition, size class, structural condition and canopy categories.
Because these data were compiled and digitized using LANDSAT imagery with a pixel size of 30 meters, the positional accuracy of the polygons is less than that acheived in later phases of the oak and pine survey of the Willamette Valley. When these polygons are overlaid onto current NAIP imagery sources, it becomes apparent that the digitizing of the polygons could be further refined to reflect the enhanced resolution of the imagery.
