The 3 year effort to complete the Willamette Valley Land Use / Land Cover GIS data layer was completed in 1998 by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife's (ODFW) Ecological Analysis Center and its NW Region Habitat Program. This 1:24,000 scale data set contains over 43,000 polygons delineating 28 land use / land cover classes for portions of seven counties in the Willamette Valley, OR. The Northwest Habitat Institute (NHI) has agreed to maintain and distribute this data set since ODFW closed its Ecological Analysis Center, and several of the NHI founders helped create this data set.
Purpose:
The goal of the project was to produce a high-resolution GIS vegetation map of the Willamette Valley to be used by ODFW and other wildlife and fisheries biologists.

This data set is the result of a 3-year effort involving 1:24,000 color aerial photograph
interpretation and extensive field mapping. The delineations were transferred to mylar
overlays on 1:24,000 USGS topographic and orthophoto quadrangle maps and then digitized.
For more details, please see the project report (wvveg24k.pdf).
Completeness_Report:
Data set is complete for the area covered by ODFW - WAC 1993 Willamette Valley Color Aerial
Photo set at 1:24,000 resolution. The aerial photo set is housed at the ODFW N.W. Region
office (Habitat Division) in Corvallis, OR.
